Instead of having a birthday party, I decided to organize a fundraiser on short notice to assist efforts taken on by City Action Partnership, or CAP, an agency located in downtown Birmingham. To learn more about their efforts to assist people still suffering from the effects of Katrina one year later, visit their webiste,
http://www.capisdowntown.com, and click on the Hurricane Relief heading in the sidebar.
We were able to raise more than $200 and collect several bags of medical supplies and other needed items. The money will go to help offset the cost of delivering the supplies to the Gulf Coast.
This is a picture of Becky, the warehouse manager for City Action Partnership's hurricane relief activities, and myself. I am extremely grateful for her staying for most of the event. I only wished I would have known when she pulled up with the van so I could help her load it.
